The course consists of six self-paced online lessons and nine 60-minute webinar sessions. Each self-paced lesson will have a scheduled release date. These lessons are available 24 hours a day during the release. You may login and out anytime at your convenience to finish the lesson. This 15-hour blended training, which includes instructional webinars as well as self-paced modules, is designed to build on the strengths, knowledge, and skills of technical assistance professionals who work with early childhood and school-age programs. The Strengths-Based Coaching® model used in this course is a practical step-by-step approach for working with adults that fundamentally changes the way providers are supported to achieve and sustain quality improvements in care and education. This course focuses on:
- Coaching basics for effective leadership
- Creating an environment of positive intent
- Developing partner-based relationships
- Using existing strengths to enhance performance
- Meeting personal and organizational goals
About the Authors:
Joy Humbarger, M.A., is a Business and Professional Development Specialist with the Francis Institute for Child and Youth Development in Kansas City, Missouri. She provides coaching, consultation and training for staff and leaders who serve children from birth to age 21. Humbarger's experience as an international trainer focuses on a variety of leadership topics for consultants, child care program directors, school district coaches, and other leaders. Drawing upon research, the considerable contributions of the professional development staff at Francis Institute, and her own wealth of experiences, Humbarger is author of Strengths-Based Coaching®, the Francis Institute curriculum for coaching adults through change. Humbarger's work centers on her passion for finding and celebrating the strengths in each person, and providing opportunities to develop self-reflection skills that create and enhance positive growth and change in others.
Terrell Mann holds a M.A. in Child Studies from the Eliot-Pearson Center at Tufts University and a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut. With more than 25 years of experience in the field of Early Childhood Education, her past roles include: lead teacher, master teacher, center director, program coordinator and early intervention special educator. She has been an Adjunct Instructor in Early Childhood Education at Kansas City Kansas Community College for more than 10 years. Currently, Mann serves as Professional Development Coordinator. She provides on-site technical assistance, training and coaching to local child care programs, and creates and presents a variety of training programs for the Francis Institute Resource Center at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.
