What you will learn:
The Family Child Care Tax Update is designed to share the latest changes in tax laws affecting family child care providers in 2011. Using a train-the-trainer format, this webinar will assist CCR&R staff and trainers to be better prepared to answer questions and present workshops that will help family child care providers reduce their taxes. Participants will learn about the new 100% depreciation rule, the reduction of the Social Security tax rate, new eligibility limits for the Saver’s Tax Credit, the new Voluntary Classification Settlement Program, as well as the new standard meal allowance and standard mileage rates.
After completing this training, you will be able to:
- Understand and communicate changes in the 2011 tax laws affecting providers
- Help providers find and choose a qualified tax preparer
- Help providers inform their tax preparers of how tax laws can lower provider taxes
About the Facilitator:
Tom Copeland is the nation’s leading expert on the business of family child care. He is an independent consultant, trainer, author, and family child care advocate. Since 1981, he has helped hundreds of thousands of people understand complex business and tax issues.
From 1981 to 2009, Tom worked for Resources for Child Caring (RCC), a non-profit Child Care Resource and Referral Agency in St. Paul, Minnesota. From 1992 to 2009, he was director of Redleaf National Institute, the national center for the business of family child care, a division of RCC.
Since 2009, he has been an independent consultant. He offers a variety of workshops and webinars on business issues for family child care providers, trainers and tax preparers. He has a contract with the National Association for Family Child Care to conduct webinars, write e-newsletters and answer questions from providers. Each year he teaches thousands of family child care providers through live trainings and answers more than a thousand questions via email and phone.
